Over US$ 11 Million in Business for Brazilian Leather Following Milan Trade Fair

The leather and fashion value chain had a busy few days in Milan, Italy, last week. The city hosted a series of activities related to the technology, materials and finished products industries, including the Simac Tanning Tech, Lineapelle, MICAM and MIPEL trade fairs. For the six Brazilian tanneries exhibiting at Lineapelle, business generated as a result of the week in Milan is projected to reach US$ 11.7 million over the next 12 months. This figure is 10% higher than at the equivalent edition of the fair in 2025.

Brazilian leather’s participation in Lineapelle was supported by the Brazilian Leather project, a partnership between the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) and the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), aimed at promoting Brazilian leather sales in international markets.

Buyers from Italy in particular, as well as from China, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and the United States, were the main visitors to the Brazilian exhibitors’ stands at Lineapelle. The Brazilian tanneries exhibiting at the fair were Bolzano, Fuga Couros, Courovale, Nova Kaeru, OCM Best Brasil, and Couro e Arte.

On the technical side, the mission organized for CICB members to attend Simac Tanning Tech delivered excellent results. This year, the invited group included representatives from the Gobba, Mucca Pelli, Kromática and Vitapelli tanneries. The trip was coordinated by CICB following an invitation from ITA (Italian Trade Agency, the Italian government agency responsible for trade promotion) and Assomac (the Italian Association of Manufacturers of Technology for the sector). The group highlighted the exchange of professional experiences with peers from around the world and the opportunity to learn about new technologies as some of the key benefits of the trip.

As Letícia Luft, manager of the Brazilian Leather project, points out, a series of activities held alongside the trade fairs also played an important role in Brazil’s participation in Lineapelle and Simac Tanning Tech. These included meetings of the International Council of Tanners (ICT, the global organization representing the leather industry), the launch of the Global Leather Alliance (a new global movement to promote and enhance the value of leather), a visit to Lineapelle by the Consul General of Brazil in Milan, Ambassador Hadil da Rocha-Vianna, and ApexBrasil representatives Daniela Mendonça de Oliveira and Mariele Laís Christ, as well as media content production and participation in seminars.
