Brazilian leather project

Brazilian Leather Project is led by the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) in partnership with the Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil).

There are several strategies for consolidating the national product in foreign markets - encouraging the participation of tanneries in the main world fairs linked to the sector and business missions focused on strengthening relationships between Brazilian suppliers and buyers from other countries are some of them.

Our history

The first edition of the Brazilian Leather project took place in 2000, when the national leather industry exported US$760 million per year. At that time, the type of leather that Brazil sold most to the foreign market was wet blue, with little added value. Since then, a lot has changed, always with the support of Brazilian Leather project. The industry exported US$1.117 billion in 2025 (see updated data in our exports section, on this website), with more than 60% in finished leather and crust (with higher added value).
